Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater KEYART

By Ameer Ammar

MGS3 is a pretty legendary game for good reason and there's no denying that this remake is extremely fun to play, with colorful characters, great gameplay and fantastic storytelling, all fully intact in this remake without any radical changes being made to the formula.

The graphics here are gorgeous there's really no denying it, it looks great in motion, everything is mega-detailed and the Legacy filter included is perfect for anyone looking to keep the original "soul" and tone of the OG MGS3, I especially love the update to the character models, everyone looks exactly as they did in the original game just now fully remade to match 2025 models quality.

I have never finished the OG MGS3 but I have played a few hours of the game and what surprised me the most about this remake is that it really doesn't play radically different from the original, the aiming is improved to allow for third person aiming similar to MGS5, movement is generally faster especially while prone and crouching has been added as well. While these changes might seem huge they actually don't result in a very different feeling game, the main QoL change that I appreciate is the modernized controls, there's a lot less friction while playing MGS3 than ever here and I salute the devs on achieving that. It feels so good to play, it's not quite MGS5 levels and it shouldn't be as MGS3 was designed to be a slower game and that is kept here fully, the TPS aiming does definitely result in the game generally being easier but I prefer easier over the more janky gameplay of the original game.

There's also "Legacy Style" gameplay which removes most of the new gameplay enhancements and reverts the control scheme to the OG style for anyone looking for an extremely accurate version of classic MGS3 to play.

Taking cover

However I cannot in good conscious recommend purchasing this remake right now, especially at its $70 price point due to the state of its optimization, simply put the game should've been delayed. on PS5 Pro the game suffers from consistent FPS drops during combat, PSSR implementation is completely fumbled here resulting in a worse image quality during gameplay than the base PS5 somehow while performing even worse, PC optimization also suffers from massive issues and you are expected to utilize DLSS/Frame-gen to achieve any truly 60FPS gameplay on there. ALL platforms suffer from inconsistent frame-rates across the board, If you have a VRR capable screen then a lot of these FPS drops are less noticeable thankfully but they are there especially if you try going underwater the game TANKS and for some reason just can't handle it.

So far (I just got past The Pain) MGS Delta is a gorgeous remaster that plays well mainly because this is still MGS3 at its core which is an incredible game but this version is deeply hampered by its optimization.

Legacy Style gameplay

If you don't care about performance then this purchase is fine for you, otherwise, just wait a while, you'll be able to pick it up on discount and patched up in a couple months.
