Remedy's creativity has no bounds.
This DLC is deeply meta. Completely absurd and I mean that as a compliment. From the moment Episode 1 begins, you're pulled into a fever dream It is hilarious, unsettling, self-aware, and delightfully weird in all the right ways. I can’t stress this enough. Episode 1 had me laughing out loud of what I was playing, it is so creative and unique.
Episode 2, while still strong conceptually, was probably the weakest of the three for me. I was genuinely excited to see Jesse Faden return, and the opening sets a great tone. But once you’re in it, the pacing starts to drag. It leans heavily into fetch-quest territory, which undercuts the momentum the episode builds early on. That being said, the final stretch of this episode completely saved it for me. It delivered a twist that genuinely shocked me and raised a ton of questions about Control 2. The ending hints at something far bigger and far more interconnected in the Remedy Connected Universe, and I can’t wait to see how it plays out in future titles
Now let’s talk about Episode 3: Time Breaker. This is, without a doubt, the shining jewel of the entire expansion. It is bold, brilliant, and utterly mind-bending. I’m going to be vague here to avoid spoilers, but I have to say that Time Breaker is not just the best part of the DLC. It is one of the best single episodes of content Remedy has ever created. This chapter is longer than the other two combined, and every single second of it is packed with innovative ideas, fourth-wall shattering mechanics, and a level of ambition that genuinely took me by surprise.
There were moments in Time Breaker where I just sat back in awe, not quite believing what I was seeing and playing. It is the kind of experience that reminds you why you fell in love with video games in the first place. Remedy is not just pushing boundaries. They are obliterating them. And Time Breaker feels like a glimpse into a future Remedy title. A wild, ambitious, completely bonkers vision that they have only begun to tap into. It feels like a playable proof of concept. A tease of something monumental that will one day arrive. I don’t know what that game will be or what it will look like, but I know I’ll be there on day one if that ever becomes a real game.
Visually, the DLC maintains the same jaw-dropping presentation as the base game. The lighting, atmosphere, and surreal visual effects are once again top-tier. The performances are all excellent.
FINAL VERDICT
If you loved Alan Wake 2, Night Springs is essential. It is a surreal, funny, disturbing, and unforgettable ride through the multiverse that only Remedy could deliver. It adds more fuel to the fire of this interconnected universe they are building, and if this is just the beginning of what’s coming next, then we are in for something truly special.
Alan Wake 2 Night Springs - 9/10 - MUST-PLAY
