I've finally finished the classic itself for the first time!

This might be the oldest game I've ever played to completion, it's five years older than me and I loved it. This game is considered a classic and widely celebrated for good reason, I now recognize that MGS1 has influenced basically every story game that came after, seriously revolutionary for its time and the ultimate message of the story and "genes" is timeless.

Solid Snake is the kind of protagonist that really surprised me with how ruthless and disregarding of everyone early on but the way the story molds him into a proper hero was beautiful, I honestly don't even know how I never had this game ever spoiled to me before, I am insanely glad I experienced it for the first time completely blind as I was SHOCKED by the twists here especially the Naomi stuff which I never saw coming.
For the first couple of hours I found the gameplay to be frustrating, dying constantly and just not being able to get used to the controls as you can see by my pretty bad endgame stats but eventually it all just clicked and MGS1 became an insanely fun experience, I was most surprised by just how well thought out every item was, you really do use everything you find in some manner throughout the experience.
A couple aspects did piss me off like how rare rations felt in the latter half of the game making boss fights like the hind really annoying, MG-Rex fight's camera angles were infurating at times but beatable after figuring it out but honestly these are super minor gripes with a game that is the daddy to modern gaming structure and tropes so it deserves a pass on everything honestly even the few parts where they have you backtrack that I didn't take much issue with as the stealth is so fun as it is.
I played on the master collection, it does run at 30FPS but that feels completely fine here, there's a smoothing graphical option on by default that I HIGHLY recommend turning off, I wish I turned it off sooner as it makes the game look way worse, aside from that I thought this was a pretty good port, no complaints and no bugs.
Metal Gear Solid is a classic for a good reason, it has aged remarkably well and I'd recommend playing it even today, the controls take a bit to get used to and the camera can be frustrating at a few portions but everything else holds up beautifully
Metal Gear Solid - MUST-PLAY
